Determine your Pupillary Distance (PD)

The PD is the distance, in millimeters (mm), between the center of your pupils (the black part in the middle).

For most Adults, this is between 54-66mm. For most children, this is between 41-53mm.

If your prescription was written in Alaska, Kansas, Massachusetts, and New Mexico, then it should already include your PD.  Even if you are a resident of another state, you can request this information from your provider.

Auto-Measure it with a Smart Phone App

The easiest way to measure your PD is through a smart phone app. These apps automatically measure your PD by talking a selfie. You can use a free mobile app here if you have an iPhone, or here if you have an Android device.

Measure it Yourself

To manually measure your PD, it may be easier to get someone to help you. You can have them hold up a ruler in front of your eyes, and measure the distance between them as pictured above.

If you would prefer to do it yourself, you can use a mirror to measure yourself.
